Opera North’s Young Creatives project provides children aged 8–14 with the opportunity to develop as performers and creative thinkers. Open to children of all levels of interest and experience, this is the ideal project for those that are new to the arts or want to improve their skills in singing and performance.
I have learnt loads about acting, composing and singing. It was a very special experience and one I will always remember.
During Term 1 (Sept – Dec), children will have the opportunity to work with a team of professional artists to explore opera and the many art forms it includes, such as singing, acting, design, creative writing and performance. Children will write, stage and perform their own songs and will also have the chance to showcase their other creative talents.
During Term 2 (Jan – Mar), children will work with an experienced Vocal Leader and Director to hone their performance skills, with the chance to perform their very own concert at the end of the term. This is the ideal training ground for any children wishing to audition for the Opera North Children’s Chorus. Children are welcome to take part in Term 1, 2 or the whole project.
Opera North has definitely helped with my daughter’s confidence and I would definitely recommend them to other children with a passion for music and theatre.
This project is open to all children regardless of background, ability or experience. Membership fees apply but we are able to offer financial assistance to ensure that costs do not create a barrier to taking part.
His confidence and ability to speak his mind have improved no end and I think this is due in large part to his involvement with Opera North.

When do we meet?
From September to March, Young Creatives will meet every Monday evening (term time only) from 5:00 – 7:30pm at a Leeds City Centre venue. There are also occasional visits to see performances and events on other dates – full details will be issued to members at the start of each term.
Children are welcome to join for just term 1 or 2, but to get the most from this project we recommend completing both terms.
How much does it cost?
Membership costs just £50 per term (£100 for the full project)
We do not want cost to be a barrier to any potential members, so we offer bursary places to families in challenging circumstance – these bursary places cover the membership fees and also additional expenses that may be associated with taking part. Please contact Opera North Education for more information and to find out if you are eligible.
How and when can I apply?
They will be holding a free taster session in early September 2015. As places during Term 1 will be limited, they advise that you contact them at the earliest opportunity to register your interest. They welcome expressions of interest at any time during the year and additional places will be available from January 2016.
